It's not easy for me to talk about 'Salvador (Puig Antich)' without rekindling memories and feelings that turn me inside out. People from my generation, those that lived through the last years of the Franco dictatorship between adolescence and adulthood had to witness the cruelty of the regime and the ferociousness with which it refused to relinquish its power and privilege. Without doubt the murder of Salvador Puig Antich was one of the most significant and symbolic blows for all of us who were waiting for the end to the Franco dictatorship. For all of us of the same age it was a cruel blow to our aspirations.
It was a strange lunch-time, when Jaume Roures asked me if I would like to do the music for the film about Puig Antich and I felt that out of the blue I had my chance to seek some revenge. As time passes allowing yourself to be seduced by revenge can't be the right path, but it was an opportunity which could not be passed up and I accepted wholeheartedly.
If, listening to the music, "someone" can perceive just a smidgen of sensitivity, or a touch of lyricism or emotional connection it might be difficult to imagine the power which lies behind it. But if that "someone" sees the film 'Salvador (Puig Antich)', I secretly believe that they will appreciate the message I'm trying to convey 'Salvador (Puig Antich)' is about the present.
