On 2 March 1974, the young militant of the Movimiento Ibérico de Liberación (Iberian Liberation Movement), Salvador Puig Antich, became the last political prisoner to be executed in Spain by the garrotte. This is his story and that of the desperate attempts of his family, colleagues and lawyers to avoid his execution.

Butaca 30/11/2007. 'Salvador (Puig Antich)' won the Best Catalan Film award in the Catalan Theatre and Film Awards voted for by cinema-goers since the launch of the awards in 1995.
   
Salvador 14/09/2007. 'Salvador (Puig Antich)' went on general release around Germany in cities such as: Hamburg, Berlin, Stuttgart, Dresden, Mainz, Aschaffenburg, Nuremberg, Munich and Dusseldorf, among others.
   
Japan 07/09/2007. 'Salvador (Puig Antich)' continues its series of international releases taking part in the 'Latin Beat', the Spanish Film Festival in Tokyo. Manuel Huerga will be on hand to participate in a debate sponsored by the Instituto Cervantes in the Japanese capital.
   
Calanda 07/09/2007. In the '22 x don Luis' Film Festival organised by the Centro Buñuel de Calanda (Teruel), 'Salvador (Puig Antich)' won the best movie award.
   
Brühl 22/06/2007. Daniel Brühl won the Golden Space Needle award for best male actor in the SIFF (Seattle International Film Festival) for his role in 'Salvador (Puig Antich)'.
   
Seattle 25/05/2007. 'Salvador (Puig Antich)' was selected for the 33rd Seattle International Film Festival. The film was shown on the 7th and 9th June in the Pacific Place Cinema in the city on the Pacific coast.
   
rne4 23/04/2007. 'Salvador (Puig Antich)' has been chosen by Radio Nacional de España listeners in Catalunya for the Rosa de Sant Jordi award for Best Spanish Film.
   
dvd 13/04/2007. From next Wednesday, 18th April, the DVD of the film 'Salvador (Puig Antich)' will go on sale. The first two editions in the shops will be the standard edition and a two-disc box-set. On the 25th April, the special collector's limited edition will be released.
   
rubio 16/03/2007. 'Salvador (Puig Antich)' plays a prominent role in the Recent Spanish Cinema Festival, with its official presentation at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood with the actress Ingrid Rubio, representing the film. In addition, the film will open the Spanish Film Festival in Nantes on Saturday 24th March.
   
ulloa 16/03/2007. 'Salvador (Puig Antich)' opened the 13th ¡VIVA! Spanish and Latino American Film Festival in Manchester. The film has also participated in the Miami International Film Festival and the San Diego Film Festival, with one of the film's stars Tristán Ulloa present at both.
   
llach 23/02/2007. Lluís Llach is nominated for the Music Awards in the BSO Cinematográfica Best Album category for the soundtrack of 'Salvador (Puig Antich)'.
   
goyas 16/02/2007. 'Salvador (Puig Antich)' has been chosen as the Best Spanish Film of the Year by the listeners to the Radio Marca show 'La Claqueta'. In the Best Actor in a Leading Role section Daniel Brühl, the star of the film, was selected as winner.
   
mediapro 09/02/2007. Manuel Huerga has won the Ciutat de Barcelona award for his work directing the film 'Salvador (Puig Antich)'. The jury, made up of prestigious film critics, highlighted the film's ability "to provoke debate and reflection among the general public about our recent past".

ondas 24/11/2006. La Cadena SER has awarded its Premio Cinemanía for film event of the year to 'Salvador (Puig Antich)'. The film receives the award for the bravery and brilliance of its depiction of one of the darkest episodes in Spain's recent history. The hosts for the evening Carles Francino and Gemma Nierga presented the award to actress Leonor Watling, the film's director; Manuel Huerga; Carme and Imma Puig Antich, Salvador's sisters; and Jaume Roures, the producer.

La Cadena SER has announced the list of winners of this year's Ondas awards, a ceremony which goes back to 1954, for those individuals, projects and companies that have impressed in the worlds of radio, television, cinema and music. 'Salvador (Puig Antich)' has been awarded the Cinemanía prize for film event of the year.
   
toulouse 08/10/2006. 'Salvador (Puig Antich)' has won the Audience Award at the 11th Spanish Cinema Film Festival in Toulouse and Midi Pyrénées. The festival, which closed last Sunday, sets out to promote Spanish cinema in France. The prize won by the Manuel Huerga film includes 20,000 euros worth of pre-launch advertising for its promotional campaign in France.
   
estreno 15/09/2006. Friday saw the premiere in Spain of 'Salvador (Puig Antich)' by Manuel Huerga, with excellent early reviews and a nomination to represent Spain at next year's Oscars. The Spanish Film Academy announced on Friday that 'Salvador (Puig Antich)' is one of three films selected to represent Spain at the 79th Oscars Awards Ceremony, in the foreign film section. On the 28th September the winning film will be announced.
   
estreno 12/09/2006. The film 'Salvador (Puig Antich)' has been short-listed for the European Academy Awards. The film's main character, Daniel Brühl, won the Best Actor Award in 2003 and has twice picked up the audience's Jameson Award for Best Actor. The academy will announce the nominees for the different categories on the 4th November during the Seville Film Festival. The Academy's 1,700 members vote to decide the nominated films.
   
estreno 24/05/2006. 'Salvador (Puig Antich)' film was presented at the Cannes Film Festival and given a standing ovation after its screening in the Claude Debussy Theatre. The reception for 'Salvador (Puig Antich)' was marked by warm and enthusiastic applause as well as excellent reviews from the critics who attended the premiere.

cannes 21/04/2006. 'Salvador (Puig Antich)' has been short-listed to take part in the "Un certain regard" section of the 59th Cannes Film Festival, which is to be held from 17th to 28th May. The film, which will be internationally premiered in the prestigious competition, will hit Spanish cinema screens in the autumn.
   
rodaje 28/11/2005. The film 'Salvador (Puig Antich)' based on the novel 'Cuenta atrás: historia de Salvador Puig Antich', by Francesc Escribano, has finished shooting. The filming began back in July in Barcelona and lasted fourteen weeks in different locations in Barcelona, Valencia and France.

Alongside them, are actors and actresses, Celso Bugallo, Joaquim Climent, Antonio Dechent, Carlos Fuentes, Joel Joan, Bea Segura, Marc Rodríguez, Biel Durán, Aida Folch, Olalla Escribano and Carlota Olcina.
